Author Paul Kester from the Mark Twain novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

This is a community theater production, there is no pay.

Join Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and Becky Thatcher in the greatest summer adventure ever told in this imaginative, highly theatrical adaptation of Mark Twain’s incomparable classic. Featuring the thrill of mischief-making, the fickleness of first love, the cold shivers that linger after an adventure gone very wrong and the unbridled joy at discovering real buried treasure, this story is for anyone who has ever been a kid and celebrates all that is grand and glorious about childhood.

WIDOW DOUGLAS (F to play mid 60s) a kindhearted, pious resident of St. Petersburg whom the children recognize as a friend. Tom knows that the Widow Douglas will give him and Becky ice cream and let them sleep over. She is kind to Huck even before she learns that he saved her life.

AUNT POLLY (F to play mid 30s) Tom’s aunt and guardian. Aunt Polly is a simple, kindhearted woman who struggles to balance her love for her nephew with her duty to discipline him. Above all, Aunt Polly wants to be appreciated and loved.

MRS. HARPER (F to play mid 30s) Joe Harper's mother, conventional counterpart to Tom's Aunt Polly. When Tom and Joe disappear and are feared drowned, the two women share in each other's grief.

WALTER POTTER (M to play mid 20s-30s) a young man, stern and resolute. Sunday School Superintendent. Muff Potter’s son.

MARY ROGERS (F to play 16-18) Tom’s sweet, almost saintly cousin. She is gentle and good-natured, and has great patience with Tom despite his tricks.

DR. ROBINSON (M to play mid 30s) a young doctor, guilty of grave robbing, whose murder instigates the chaotic happenings in St. Petersburg.

BECKY THATCHER (F to play 10-12) daughter of Judge Thatcher. Prim and proper, Becky is the opposite of Tom: she has never been in trouble and is used to obeying her mother's words. She quickly wins Tom's affection and attention.

SID SAWYER (M to play 10-14) Tom’s half-brother. Sid is a goody-goody who enjoys getting Tom into trouble. He is mean-spirited but presents a superficial show of model behavior. He is thus the opposite of Tom, who is warmhearted but behaves badly.

MUFF POTTER (M to play 40s-60s) a hapless drunk and friend of Injun Joe. Potter is kind and grateful toward Tom and Huck, who bring him presents after he is wrongly jailed for Dr. Robinson’s murder.

GRACIE MILLER (F to play 10-12) a shrewish girl with neglected hair and shabby dress.

TOM SAWYER (M to play 10-12) a mischievous boy with an active imagination who spends most of his time getting himself, and often his friends, into and out of trouble. Despite his mischief, Tom has a good heart and a strong moral conscience.

JOE HARPER (M to play 10-12) Tom's best friend. One of Tom's "gang" of pirates, Joe accompanies Tom on some of his adventures.

INJUN JOE (M to play 40s-60s) has a violent temperament and is set on seeking revenge on those who have treated him harshly in the past. He has suffered social exclusion, probably because of his race.

BEN ROGERS (M to play 10-12) one of Tom’s friends, whom Tom persuades to whitewash Aunt Polly’s fence.

HUCKLEBERRY FINN (M to play 10-12) a juvenile outcast who is shunned by respectable society and adored by the local boys, who envy his freedom. Like Tom, Huck is highly superstitious, and both boys are always ready for an adventure.

ALFRED TEMPLE (M to play 10-12) – an offensive, citified boy. Like Amy Lawrence, Alfred gets caught in the crossfire of Tom and Becky’s love games, as Becky pretends to like him in order to make Tom jealous.

AMY LAWRENCE (F to play 10-12) Tom’s former love. Tom abandons Amy when Becky Thatcher comes to town.

REVEREND SPRAGUE (M to play 30s-60s) the minister of the town church.

SHERIFF JONES (M to play 40s-60s) a lawman.

JUDGE THATCHER (M to play 50s-60s) a renowned judge who is the father of the little girl Tom likes.

MRS. THATCHER (F to play 50s-60s) the Judges wife, Becky’s mother.
