Overview of Production

Imagination Theater announces auditions for Love Letters by A.R. Gurney to be performed at the Smith Flat House in Placerville, CA.

The play is a unique and imaginative theatre piece which, in the words of the author, "needs no lengthy rehearsal, no special set, no memorization of lines. It is designed simply to be read aloud by an actor and an actress of roughly the same age, sitting side by side at a table."

Performance Dates

Friday, February 9, 10, 16,17

Performances maybe added on the 11th or 18th so actors will need to keep those days available.

Auditions

Auditions will be held January 13th from 9-11 am and will include cold readings from the script.  Scripts are available for checkout at the Imagination Theater Box Office, and must be returned in three days.

The production might feature a single cast for the entire run OR two casts, with each doing two of the four performances.

Real-life couples are encouraged to audition.

The Show

The piece is comprised of letters exchanged over 50 years between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. As the actors read the letters aloud, what is created is an evocative, touching, frequently funny but always telling pair of character studies in which what is implied is as revealing and meaningful as what is actually written down.

Andrew Makepeace Ladd III:

Male actor, 30-60

Economically well-off and born to privilege; raised with 'yankee' values and traditional 'breeding' through boarding schools, etc. Actor should have the outer qualities that would make him credible as a Senator from NY in the Nelson Rockefeller tradition.

Melissa Gardner:

Female Actor – 30-60s Economically rich and born to privilege; raised with 'yankee' values and traditional 'breeding' through boarding schools, finishing schools, etc. child of Divorced parents and a few step-fathers. Melissa is creative and independent, full of life and humor, high verbal and loves to talk about feelings and 'things nice girls don't talk about'; a 'force of nature'. Actor should have the outer qualities that would make her credible as a successful nyc visual artist during the 60's-early 80's. Outwardly confident and sure of herself. Beneath the surface: a romantic looking for love and someone to be a safe anchor in a restless life.
